Journal entry 6

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS:
1. How was the confidentiality code violated with  the mother? By telling the other parents of his pass problem at the other school.

2. How was the confidentiality code violated with the child? By talking to the other parents about the child and what had happen at the other school.

3.Do you think there should have been a discussion between the two directors concerning Eric's disability prior to his enrollment? Yes.

4. Who should have been included in this meeting? The parents or parent, teacher, and Eric.

5.Do you think a conversation with Eric's classmates would have been helpful? Yes

6. List some methods that might have eased Eric's transition to his new school.Talking to him about moving to a  new school, as well as taking him there to meet his new teacher, and talking to the class about having a classmate with an disability.

7.How do you feel about the teacher's conversation at the restaurant? I think she broke every code in the book, she was total unprofessional .

8. What if the conversation happened in the staff lounge at the center? Still wrong and she would have been reprimand.

9. As a director, is there anything you could do to rectify this situation? Yes I would have a meeting with the staff, or have someone come in and talk to the staff about caring with children with a disability.

10. Do you think the mother should leave her child in that school? Yes, even if it meant getting rid of the teacher in question.

11. Explain your reasons for not moving Eric again. Because Eric i'm sure if he had anything to do with it he would rather not have a disability, and their will always be challenges, and always moving him will not help him, children, and adults alike well often time look down on things they don't understand. Unless they face diversity.

Journal entry 4

"How does it feel when someone does not use your name, gives you the cold shoulder, does not make eye contact and only greets you with complaints?
It all depends on the setting and if I knew the person. Is it someone that I knew or would I have contact with that person on a daily basis, as well as the circumstance, if it's someone in passing then it don't matter. But if it's someone with whom I had to work with then I would feel trouble maybe even a little hurt. But some people are not good with name, I myself is one such person I am a visual person, now if that person is a co-worker then that is a different story, taken in consideration that this a person that I have to work with I would try to get to know them better. So with that being said I would first try to establish or at least try to establish a peaceful working relationship, just by staying out of their way to avoid conflict. I would discuss it with the director acknowledging that there is a problem,. Then try to come up with a solution in a way that would help me and that person better get along for everyone concern. Some people just don't click at first. I feel it would be best for me and the person with the issue to try and confront it head on to avoid any misunderstanding.

Activity 2.2

I would first take some time to cool down, I then would ask to meet with her away from the children. Once we were alone I would let her know that I was aware the she used my work and explain to her if she needed my help in the future I would be more than will to help, but her using my idea for her own was unfair. I would let her know that I had showed other staff members the work and that everyone knew the work was my idea.

Activity 2.1

I would let the teacher no that the time is what she requested, then explain to her that she is expected to work unless she can fine a co-worker who is willing to work in her place.

Activity 2.1

I would let the family know that even tho we don't have any children in the class with peanut allergy the center has a no peanut policy. And we must follow the rules, for the safety of the other children in the Center that may come in contact with an allergy we can not allow this and offer her another copy of the Center handbook.

Activity 1.1,1.2,1.3

Activity 1.1

Daily I interact with a variety of parents, children, and staff members. I offer open communication with all families and staff. As mentioned in the text, in this business, word of mouth and families personal experiences can make or break your business. To ensure that problems will be at a minuim, I communicate verbal with parents daily to allow them the opportunity to voice any concerns or issues they may be having. Communication is KEY in this type of business and as long as they doors of communication remain open, this should allow you to be very successful.

Activity 1.2

I feel the situation was handled correctly. All avenues of concerns were addressed from noting the incident, to talking with the child about the proper ways to handle anger issues. Educating the parent on how biting is common at this age was a good way to assure the parents that this was something that may happen again, but if at all will be prevented. Asking the parent if the actions were acceptable allows the parents to decide whether anything further actions should be taken. I feel that all areas were covered in the conversation.

Activity 1.3

I visualize my business as being top of the line in providing affordable, quality care to families from all walks of life. My rates would be reasonable for any family and although the rates would be reasonable I would still implement the highest quality of care. To compete with the competitors, I would offer mother's day out and discounted or no enrollment fees to families who may have difficulty paying these fees. My center would be academically oriented as well as student driven. Allowing children to express themselves through play and art allows the child to be themselves and feel comfortable doing so. As far as polices, I would closely follow and implement the NAEYC of ethics as well as follow guidelines as handed down from OKDHS. My curriculum would be child driven based and my equipment will be safe, approved equipment, and age appropriate. The strengths of my center would be that I am family oriented, have properly educated staff, follow and implement the NAEYC code of ethical standards and lastly, affordable. In the areas of improvement, I would like to offer more resources or referrals to families who may need assistance.
